unite as one
Phil was his first friend, a housemate and a fellow first year. There weren’t a lot of male Hufflepuffs that year so, really, Phil and Clint were all each other had. Phil was polite and friendly, introducing himself to Clint right away. Clint was hesitant at first, but it was hard to dislike a guy who was offering you free gummy worms.
Natasha was next. His second year they apparently both had the same bright idea to steal Headmaster Fury’s eye patch. Unfortunately, they hadn’t known each other at the time and their plans collided, resulting in them both being caught and punished. They spent the rest of their punishment glaring at each other and tapping out insults in Morse code…until they realized that both of them knew it. That’s when they started making plans to steal Fury’s eyepatch together…tapping fervently on their desks.
Thor was another detention story. They joined forces in a fight, not really knowing the other except as a face in the hall. The Slytherins had been picking on some first years though and neither Clint nor Thor was going to stand for that. Clint stuck to hexing them from a distance, but Thor charged in with fists swinging. He still wasn’t sure how Thor took down three, seventh year Slytherin boys but he was impressed. They relived the tale while they cleaned the halls and still laugh to this day at the faces those boys made when a third year charged them and brought them down like they were nothing.
Clint still isn’t sure how or why he’s friends with Tony. He does remember their first meeting. The kid just appeared in the Hufflepuff common room one day and said he was “hiding from the ticked off red head chasing him.” Clint showed him a hidden space behind one of the statues in the Common room and didn’t think twice about it. It wasn’t until Pepper, the Hufflepuff Prefect, came in and started asking where Tony was that Clint realized that must be the kid he had just hidden away. He shrugged, said he hadn’t seen him, and watched as Pepper stalked away, looking rather ticked. The next day Tony was at his table and it was all downhill from there. He still never found out what the two were mad at each other about.
Steve was probably the last person he expected to make friends with, but when you wind up stumbling into a mess at Hogwarts that involves evil wizards and labyrinths beneath the castle…well…you take the allies given to you. That was really the adventure that brought all of them together. And when Steve saved them all despite his small size by throwing a discarded magical shield at a 10 foot mountain troll, well, you tend to befriend a guy after that.
